Free SSL bluehost

Today, in this tutorial I’m gonna explain how to get, enable and force SSL certificate on your wordpress site hosted on bluehost. We’ll get SSL certificates from letsencrypt. If you don’t have any blog then I will recommend you going through bluehost.

First of all I wanna tell you what SSL certificates are?

SSL stands for S(Secured) S(Sockets) L(Layer). According to GoDaddy SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificates encrypt information sent between a visitor and the secured webpage. According to GlobalSign Inc. SSL Certificates are small data files that digitally bind a cryptographic key to an organization’s details. When installed on a web server, it activates the padlock and the https protocol (over port 443) and allows secure connections from a web server to a browser.

So, we got pretty knowledge about SSL(s).

Now, How to get a SSL certificate?

First of all login to your Admin panel and locate plugins in the sidemenu on left. Now, in plugins you will see an option for Add New. Click on that and search for plugin WP Encrypt. Install and activate that plugin.

Now, in sidemenu locate settings. Hover over settings and you would see WP Encrypt option in it. Click on that option and now fill required details and click Save Changes. Now review your WP-Encrypt settings and Click Generate Certificate. Now your certificate will be generated and saved you will get the location of your new SSL certificate. Usually, the location is /home/USER/letsencrypt/live/HOSTNAME. USER is your username  and HOSTNAME is your domain. In this way, you have created your first SSL certificate. It’s time to install it using your bluehost‘s cPanel.

Now, How to install SSL certificate?

Access your bluehost’s cPanel and locate SSL/TLS in it. Now you will see an option to install SSL certificate. In it, select your domain, in certificate paste the contents of cert.pem which we downloaded before and also paste the private key from private.pem and in CA paste chain.pem’s content. Wait for 3-5 minutes after installing SSL and now access your site using https://. If there were no errors while installing SSL then, you wouldn’t get a Privacy Error. Now, it’s time to force SSL in your wordpress site.
